Chloe was adopted as a puppy from the North Shore Animal League in
Port Washington, NY. If you are looking for a pet, we highly recommend them. They have nice facilities, have great adoption counselors and
take very good care of their animals. It was kind of a hike for us to get there from New Jersey, but it was well worth it.
As a puppy, only one word described Chloe - trouble. Housebreaking was relatively easy, but general training was not. They say that
beagles are stubborn, and some of the least trainable dogs. This was true. Besides not understanding the word "no", she liked to chew on
anything she could get her little teeth into. At seven months old, we sent her to The Greg Edgar School for Dogs in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Mr. Edgar taught her to heel, sit, stay and to obey the word "No". We thought it was "boot camp" for puppies, since she was away from home
for two weeks. But when she returned she was a changed dog.
Since then Chloe has been a pretty good dog. We can leave her alone in the house without fear of any serious damage. The worst she would
do is knock over a trash can and drag toilet paper across the house! When left alone, Chloe seemed lonely and in need of company.
So on September 5, 1998, we went back to the North Shore Animal League and adopted Jetta. At first, she didn't
know what to do with this big burly dog invading her territory. But soon they became playmates and best friends.
Nowadays Chloe can be found sleeping on the bed, or chasing her sister around. If you ever come by, please be sure to say hello to Chloe,
and maybe she'll greet you with one of her trademarked beagle howls.
